          • While the foundation's primary function is to transfer the building's load onto the load-bearing ground, it also directly affects the building's thermal envelope. To ensure the desired energy efficiency performance, low-energy buildings must be designed with a continuous and uninterrupted thermal envelope. This is much simplified if we use the foundation pillow - a foundation slab which is thermally insulated from below.

          • Floors and ceiling can have numerous intended uses and may be on various location within the building. We should carefully consider the appropriate placement of thermal insulation and sound transfer protection, simultaneously taking into account the positioning of thermal insulation (cold and heated sides of spaces) and moisture and vapor transmission properties in cases of differing relative moisture.

          • As a rule, thermal insulation is installed on the outer (cold) side. Sometimes, however, it is necessary to install it from the inside. Interior thermal insulation must be carefully planned to avoid later problems with unresolved thermal bridges or water vapor diffusion.

          • If in contact with soil, any below grade wall must be thermally insulated without regard whether the space behind such walls is heated or cold. If nothing else - the thermal insulation layer will protect the waterproofing from mechanical damage. Last but not least – the building's thermal envelope must be continuous and uninterrupted.

In 1974, DIMITRIOS ANASTASIADIS established a company, called FIBRAN SA, in Thessaloniki, Greece, to produce prefabricated construction elements for the local market.

In less than 50 years, the small Greek company has grown into a European giant: FIBRAN is today a multinational industrial group with 13 production lines, factories in 6 European countries and commercial activities in 63 countries worldwide. It is currently the 3rd European producer of extruded polystyrene and enjoys an unquestionable leadership in the field of thermal insulation, sound insulation and passive fire protection in civil, industrial and naval fields…

However, the Fibran Group has not forgotten its roots, nor lost the sense of its story that was started by Dimitrios Anastasiadis and still works in a “glocal” perspective: a global business vision, a close connection with the various local realities.
The soul of the company is still a Greek one.
